On Saturday, the Department of Health reported 30,552 new Covid-19 infections and 41,471 new recoveries.

Since the pandemic began in March 2020, active cases have climbed to 280,619, with overall recoveries reaching 3,053,499, or 90.1 percent of the 3,387,524 infections.

According to the DOH, 8,591 active cases are asymptomatic, 267,236 have mild symptoms, 2,996 have moderate symptoms, 1,491 have severe symptoms, and 305 are critical.

“Of the 30,552 cases recorded today (Saturday), 28,926 (95 percent) happened within the last 14 days — Jan. 9, 2021, to Jan. 22, 2022,” according to the Department of Health.

The regions with the newest infections in the last two weeks were 4-A (Calabarzon), with 5,991 cases or 21%; National Capital Region (NCR), with 5,989 cases or 21%; and Central Luzon, with 2,563 cases or 9%.

Meanwhile, 97 more deaths pushed the total number of coronavirus deaths in the country to 53,406 people.

Due to late encoding of death information to COVIDKaya, 54 deaths occurred in January 2022 (56 percent), 5 in December 2021 (5 percent), 2 in November 2021 (2 percent), 15 in October 2021 (15 percent), 9 in September 2021 (9 percent), 3 in August 2021 (3 percent), 8 in July 2021 (8 percent), and 1 in November 2020 (1 percent).

Based on the 68,049 people who were tested on January 20, the positive percentage is at 45.1 percent.

The Department of Health stated that all laboratories were operating on that day and had uploaded data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.

To date, 52 percent of the 3,800 critical care units (ICU) devoted to Covid-19 patients across the country are occupied, with 52 percent of the 20,400 isolation beds and 53 percent of the 14,800 ward beds occupied.

50 percent of the 1,300 ICU beds, 47 percent of the 4,800 isolation beds, and 53 percent of the 4,500 ward beds in the NCR are in use.
