Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the chief implementer of the National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19, said Monday night that the government will begin administering the formulated Covid-19 vaccination to children aged 5 to 11 years old by February 4.

During President Rodrigo Duterte’s televised Talk to the People, Galvez, who is also the vaccine czar, said, “We are already prepared in the vaccination of 5 to 11 years old.”

Galvez stated that the government will issue the memorandum instructions this week, with town hall meetings taking place from January 24 to 28 for the distribution of pediatric vaccinations for children aged 5 to 11.

He noted that the formulated low-dosing Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine, which would be utilized for the younger population, is expected to arrive on February 2.

According to Galvez, the pediatric vaccine for this age group would be implemented in two stages.

For the first phase, a pilot run will be carried out in one hospital-based and one local government unit (LGU)-based vaccination site in each city in the National Capital Region (NCR).

For the second phase, it will be spread to the rest of Metro Manila’s immunization locations as well as other regions after a week.

“After one week, we will open the hospital and non-hospital immunization sites, and we will expand the sites to other locations. On February 4, we will begin our immunization rollout once more “Galvez remarked.

According to the most recent NTF data, 7,246,430 adolescents, or youth aged 12 to 17, are now entirely protected from the disease.

More than 39.41 million people between the ages of zero and 17 are expected to get vaccinated, according to the government.
