22K Covid-19 recoveries and 18K new infections are recorded by DOH.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), there were 18,191 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections and 22,014 recoveries on Thursday.

Since the pandemic began in March 2020, there have been 226,521 active cases, with overall recoveries reaching 3,213,190, or 92 percent of the 3,493,447 infections.

There are 214,857 light cases, 2,971 moderate cases, 6,875 asymptomatic cases, 1,509 severe cases, and 309 critical cases among the active cases.

“Of the 18,191 instances recorded today, 17,625 (97 percent) happened in the last 14 days — January 14 to January 27, 2022,” according to the DOH.

The regions with the newest infections in the last two weeks were Region 4-A (Calabarzon), with 2,101 cases (12%), the National Capital Region (NCR), with 2,073 cases (12%), and Davao Region, with 2,011 cases (11%).

With 74 more deaths, the death toll has risen to 53,736 people, representing 1.54 percent of all cases.

“Due to late encoding of death information to COVIDKaya, 69 fatalities occurred in January 2022 (93 percent), one in October 2021 (1 percent), one in July 2021 (1 percent), one in May 2021 (1 percent), one in July 2020 (1 percent), and one in April 2020 (1 percent),” according to the DOH.

COVIDKaya is a digital tool that allows healthcare professionals to collect and share information regarding Covid-19 cases.

According to data from the Department of Health, 35.2 percent of the 61,013 people who were tested for Covid-19 confirmed positive.

“A total of 37 duplicate cases have been eliminated from the total case count, 17 of which are recoveries and two of which are fatalities,” according to the DOH.

Meanwhile, after validation, 26 cases previously categorized as recoveries were reclassified as fatalities.

On January 25, all laboratories were functioning, but two of them were unable to submit data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.

Based on statistics from the previous 14 days, the two laboratories provide 0.3 percent of samples analyzed and 0.3 percent of positive persons, according to the DOH.

Patients with Covid-19 have used 49 percent of 3,800 ICU beds, 50 percent of 20,500 isolation beds, 51 percent of 15,700 ward beds, and 25 percent of 3,100 ventilators nationwide to date.

In the meantime, the NCR is home to 41% of 1,300 ICU beds, 39% of 4,600 isolation beds, 47% of 4,500 ward beds, and 26% of 1,100 ventilators dedicated to Covid-19 patients.
