The number of ‘Odette’-affected families has surpassed 2.5 million, according to the NDRRMC.

Typhoon Odette displaced a total of 2,551,957 households, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), when it battered regions of the Visayas and Mindanao in December last year.

The figure equates to 9,109,480 people living in 9,588 barangays or villages in the Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, according to the NDRRMC (BARMM).

Meanwhile, the number of families hiding in 1,106 evacuation facilities was estimated to be 56,763, with 32,669 receiving assistance outside of evacuation centers and the rest relying on family and friends.

In Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, the Davao Region, Soccsksargen, and the BARMM, 1,497,214 dwellings were damaged by “Odette.”

1,134,405 were categorized as damaged, while 362,809 were classified as destroyed.

Agriculture damage in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, the Davao Region, and Caraga was estimated at PHP16.9 billion.

Meanwhile, infrastructure damage in Mimaropa, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, and the BARMM was projected at PHP17.3 billion.

“Odette,” one of the fiercest typhoons to hit the Philippines in recent years, made nine landfalls in the provinces of Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Southern Leyte, Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental, and Palawan between December 16 and 17.
