Flights from countries that use the new variation are prohibited until December 15th.

On Friday, the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) recommended the interim suspension of inbound flights from South Africa, Botswana, and other countries having local cases of the novel B.1.1.1529 coronavirus variant or a high risk of occurrence.

According to a statement from Cabinet Secretary and acting presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles, the directive is effective immediately and will last until December 15.

The Bureau of Quarantine has been directed to seek travelers from the above-mentioned countries who may have arrived during the last seven days previous to the temporary suspension of inbound travel in close conjunction with local government units.

These visitors will be subjected to a complete 14-day facility-based quarantine, which will include a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test on the seventh day or upon passenger arrival, whichever comes first, with the date of arrival as the first day.

Inbound flights from Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswatini, and Mozambique, which are bordering South Africa and Botswana, have also been temporarily halted by the IATF.

Passengers arriving from or departing from these countries during the last 14 days will be temporarily denied entry into the nation.

Passengers already in transit from the aforementioned countries, as well as those who have visited them within 14 days of arriving in the Philippines, would not be denied entry if they arrive by 12:01 a.m. Saturday (November 27).

Rather, despite a negative RT-PCR result, they will be subjected to tougher quarantine and testing requirements, including the observance of an absolute facility-based 14-day quarantine period.

Meanwhile, all passengers transiting through the above-mentioned countries, whether Filipinos or foreigners, will not be considered to have come from or visited the said country if they stayed in the airport the entire time and were not cleared for entry into the country by its immigration authorities.
