Senator encourages officers to stay out of politics.
Senator Ronald dela Rosa warned the police force on Monday not to engage in partisan politics and to respect integrity and accountability principles.
Dela Rosa said cops should not be exploited by politicians during an interview at the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Camp Crame headquarters in Quezon City on the PNP’s 31st foundation day.
“Huwag na huwag kayong magpagamit sa isang pulitiko, paalala ko lang sa inyo.” If ako ay isang pulitiko, huwag na huwag kayong magpagamit talaga dahil ‘pag kayo ay gumawa ng anything na para mapaboran ang isang pulitiko in exchange for money, parang binenta mo na ang kinabukasan ng isang probinsya, bayan o siyudad (I would like to Apart from being illegal and immoral, doing something for a politician for the sake of money is like selling a province, town, or city’s future,” he stated.
Dela Rosa praised the PNP’s enlarged participation during the current health crisis in his remarks.
“We have witnessed how the PNP has risen to greater heights of honor and glory over the years via spectacular successes and ongoing internal reformation, and even exultantly overcome tremendous challenges and hardships, particularly during this pandemic,” he remarked.
Dela Rosa, a former PNP head, said he has seen how officers work and contribute beyond their responsibilities.
General Dionardo Carlos, the chief of the Philippine National Police, praised the 225,000-strong force for “keeping loyal and living up to the principles of professionalism, responsibility, integrity, and devotion in the area of law enforcement and public service.”
“Throughout the pandemic, we continued to provide competent police operations and investigations.” This view becomes more visible when we expand police presence by maximizing staff deployment for preventive patrol and PCR (police-community relations) activities in high-need areas. We have increased our battle against illegal drugs, crime, terrorism, and corruption while simultaneously combating the hidden adversary in this health crisis,” he said in a statement posted on the Philippine National Police’s Facebook page.
