San Juan’s active cases have decreased by 86 percent, and bed use is at a low-risk level.

Mayor Francis Zamora announced Monday that the number of Covid-19 cases in San Juan City has reduced by 86.03 percent in the last 18 days and that the city’s hospital Covid-bed and quarantine facilities are currently at a low-risk utilization rate.

According to Zamora, the city’s active cases “sharply” decreased from a high of 1,947 last January 12 to merely 272.

Similarly, just 23% of Covid-beds in San Juan Medical Center are filled, and only 13% in quarantine facilities.

“We credit the continued decrease in Covid-19 instances to our city’s high vaccination rate, which is now at 250 percent of our target population, as well as our people’s commitment to all health and safety regulations,” Zamora told reporters.

“We expect a larger percentage of our population to be immunized against the Coronavirus with the upcoming vaccination of children aged 5-11 years old beginning February 4,” he added.

According to Zamora, his constituents are now self-regulating in terms of adhering to government-mandated health practices.

“I believe the very high incidence of immunization in San Juan and Metro Manila is a key role,” he said in a television interview on Monday. “Even if people get Covid, for example here in San Juan, 99.9% of our cases are simply mild or symptomatic.”

Despite the fact that the number of cases in the city is falling, Zamora warned his constituents not to become complacent in their fight against the disease.

“Let us continue to adhere to all minimal public health requirements and obtain our booster injections so that the numbers continue to fall,” he urged.

The population, according to Zamora, should learn to “safely” live with the Covid-19 pandemic.
