With the procurement of 20 million more Pfizer vaccines, PH increases its vaccine program.

The government has already agreed to buy an additional 20 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccines developed in the United States.

During a virtual press conference on Sunday, National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19 lead implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said the vaccines will be used for pediatric vaccination and booster doses in priority sectors.

“As a result, yung ating 40 million [doses] na una nating napirmahan ay nadagdagan ng 20 million. With a total of 60 million na (our initial contract for 40 million doses was raised to 60 million with the addition of 20 million), we’re approaching 60 million na “he stated

In mid-October, the government began administering pediatric vaccinations to children aged 12 to 17, followed by the booster and additional doses to health care workers (A1), senior citizens (A2), and immunocompromised individuals (A3) later that month.

The pediatric immunization rollout will cover approximately 12,722,070 minors, with 1,272,207 having comorbidities.

“‘Yung children vaccine talagang tatapusin natin (By the end of December, we hope to have finished the vaccination of children),” Galvez added, saying that more than 4 million minors have been vaccinated against Covid-19 to date.

After the emergency use authorization is approved, vaccination of around 30.7 million children aged 5 to 11 years old would begin, most likely “by the end of December or possibly by the first week of January.”

Since February, the Philippines has received 142,153,340 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, both purchased and donated.

The amount includes the 547,100 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine that arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a donation from Poland.

As of November 27, a total of 81,017,994 vaccine doses had been administered across the country, with 35,557,409 Filipinos fully vaccinated, accounting for 46.10 percent of the country’s target population of 77.1 million.
