In a recent surprise raid by law enforcement officers at its warden facility in Taguig City, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported confiscating electronics, sharp objects, and gambling paraphernalia from inmates.

The raid took place early on February 4th, according to BI Commissioner Jaime Morente.

According to him, the operation was part of a series of surprise inspections to guarantee that the BI warden facility is drug-free and devoid of illegal items.

Tablets, laptops, telephones, alcoholic beverages, kitchen knives, scissors, and tools including screwdrivers, hammers, and pliers were among the things seized.

“Like the last raid we did a year ago, this shakedown is long overdue. Such raids are also carried out to verify that there is no special treatment in the PDL, according to the BI chief.

The raid was carried out by officers from the BI Intelligence Division and the BI Anti-Terrorist Group, in collaboration with the Philippine National Police Intelligence Division, PNP Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and the NCRPO – Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB).

“While the facility is not a jail, the usage of electronic devices is strictly controlled.” To avoid any untoward situations, gambling paraphernalia and sharp objects are prohibited,” Morente stated.

The confiscated things were inventoried and briefly held in the warden facility for safekeeping until the owner’s deportation.
