Beginning with the acquisition and storing of treatment pills, the municipal government is preparing for a probable rise in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases due to the imminent threat of the Omicron strain.

On Wednesday night, Mayor Benjamin Magalong claimed the city still has adequate remdesivir and dexamethasone, two crucial medicines for Covid-19 patients.

“It will require a large sum of money, and it was timely that we received confirmation from a donor over the weekend that they will send molnupiravir oral medications, which have a high efficacy rating and are effective for Covid patients. This is a huge benefit and will save a lot of money “On the sidelines of the City Hall Christmas tree lighting ceremony, he stated.

According to Magalong, this is part of the city’s action plan, which has been in the works since reports of the Omicron variant surfaced.

“Ginawa natin ngayon yung action plan natin para sa Omicron, it’s the same thing na ginawa natin sa Delta na two and a half months bago tumama ang Delta,” he remarked.

While the city has enough medical oxygen, he said the administration is now striving to secure a consistent supply of liquid oxygen, even as the city’s Covid-19 situation improves.

Apart from storing up on vital supplies, Magalong said they are also preparing isolation facilities and working with hospitals to ensure they have enough people to manage their Covid-19 facilities, including as wards and intensive care units.

There are 92,977 confirmed cases in the city as of Tuesday, with 444 active infections, 90,294 recoveries, and 2,139 fatalities.
