On Wednesday night in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, the Philippines’ tallest Christmas tree was lit.

The Tagum City Government declared in a statement on Thursday that the 195-foot Christmas tree is still the tallest in the country.

The ceremonial lighting of the Christmas tree, according to Mayor Allan L. Rellon, will offer joy to the citizens during the present pandemic.

“For some, this may be needless, but the joy this event brings to the people gives hope that we are progressively returning to normal,” he said.

Marshals have also been dispatched, according to Rellon, to check that the health regulations are followed in the area.

From 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., promenaders can photograph the holiday tree.

“I also asked the Tagumenyos to maintain discipline, despite the fact that we’ve already reached the 70 percent population protection,” he continued.

Despite the pandemic, the Christmas tree was decorated with 6,255 multi-colored bulbs and a design that promotes simplicity, longevity, and resiliency.

Blue for inspiration, green for growth and harmony, yellow for positively and hope, white for purity and simplicity, and red for courage are the five colors that make up the tree.
