For Bacolod City, population protection vs. Covid is on the horizon.
By the end of the year, the Emergency Operations Center-Task Force (EOC-TF) hopes to have the public protected against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
According to data from the Department of Health (DOH), as of December 5, 84 percent of Bacolod inhabitants had received at least one dosage of the vaccine, with 66 percent having been fully immunized.
According to the statistics, the city will be able to achieve herd immunity before Christmas or the end of the year, according to Dr. Chris Sorongon, EOC-TF medical and data analysis deputy.
Vaccination teams were able to administer initial shots to 18 percent of the target population during the National Covid-19 Vaccination Days, which took place from November 30 to December 2.
“The majority of them are due for their second dose within the month.” That is why Sorongon is optimistic about acquiring herd immunity.
Bacolod vaccinated 70,752 people throughout the course of the three-day campaign, much exceeding the DOH’s target of 66,171.
“It was incredible.” It was a remarkable display of collaboration, demonstrating that the city’s public-private partnership is alive and strong, especially in this time of epidemic,” Sorongon added.
Despite the lowering number of cases, he backed Mayor Evelio Leonardia’s earlier warning to Bacolodnos not to relax their guard and urged the unvaccinated to get vaccinated to safeguard their families and communities against Covid-19.
He stated, “Bacolod wants to return to the new normal.”
As of December 5, according to data from the Department of Health-Western Visayas, Bacolod had 392 current Covid-19 cases.
