In Sorsogon, the DPWH Bicol has completed a P20-million road improvement.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) constructed a PHP20 million paved road in Barcelona town, Sorsogon province, through its Sorsogon 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO).
The road, according to DEO chairman Felix Dimaano Jr., would connect the barangays to the town proper, where goods and agricultural products will be sold.
“It would also improve access for individuals who wish to visit the historically rich and scenic features of Barcelona and Bulusan, thereby enhancing the local tourism economy,” Dimaano wrote on Facebook on Friday.
The project is part of the Ariman Junction-Bulusan Lake Road, which connects the towns of Barcelona and Bulusan in Sorsogon, which have been identified as tourism hubs.
“The PHP20-million project was sponsored through the Department of Public Works and Highways’ regular infrastructure program, which began on January 3, 2021, and ended on September 5, the same year,” Dimaano added.
Meanwhile, Virgilio Eduarte, regional director of the Department of Public Works and Highways in Bicol, noted that connecting towns and villages and providing safer and more convenient access routes generates more prospects for advancement.
