Duterte has stated that he is preparing to leave the Palace.
As the election campaign officially began Tuesday, President Rodrigo Duterte said he has already begun collecting his belongings and preparing to leave Malacanang Palace.
“Nag-iimpake na po ako (I’m packed already).” ‘Yung excess wala na ‘yun (the excess doesn’t matter) in just over three months. So, by March, I should be out. Ang Abril ko naman naman naman naman naman naman naman naman Dito, hindi na ako matutulog. If I’m dalhin ng Panginoong Diyos, I’ll practice tulog doon (If I’m dalhin ng Panginoong Diyos, I’ll practice tulog doon). I’m not going to sleep here any longer. I’ll practice sleeping wherever the Lord God sends me),” Duterte stated in a prerecorded public address on Monday night.
He claimed he planned to acquire a two-bedroom condo in Manila and only visit the Palace for “day-to-day” operations instead of remaining at his official residence in the Malacanang compound.
The official house of Duterte and his family is in Davao City.
“Magpunta na lang ako dito for day-to-day trabaho (I’ll come here for day-to-day labor) and whatever else we have to finish.” Iyon ang (That’s all there is to it)… “And one of these days, I’ll give a speech thanking the people for the particular honor of entrusting me with the role of President,” he continued.
He stated that he did not want to live in an extravagant mansion and that his next residence should be “cheap.”
“Kami nagplano na ano magbili na lang ng —- ‘yung mumurahin na… O hindi ko kaya kung maganda kung hindi ko kaya kung hindi ko kaya I’m pag-alising this, but I don’t have any matirahan. (We are already preparing to buy a property that is within our budget.) I can’t afford the more expensive ones. I won’t be able to find a place to stay after I go. He explained, “I don’t have) cousins since they’re all in America, so wala akong bahay dito (I don’t have a house here).”
Duterte claims that he does not require a large home because his children are all grown up and have pursued political careers of their own.
“I’m not sure where I’m going, kung saan ako dalhin ng Diyos,” she says (where God would take me). “However, I am confident that he will not let me down,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Duterte expressed interest in meeting his successor and asking him or her to a meeting.
“I’m looking forward to the day of changeover; matikman ko rin ‘yung sensation ng (the sense of being) outgoing President.” I’ll be the one to introduce the new president to the rest of the world. He answered, “Then I’ll bring him here for a tête-à-tête.”
Acting Presidential Spokesperson Karlo Nograles said in December 2021 that after Duterte’s term ends in June, he will enjoy the benefits of being a private citizen and spend more time with his family.
He claimed that Duterte’s decision to withdraw from the senatorial contest will let him focus on the country’s reaction to Covid-19 and assure calm, transparent, and fair national and local elections.
