By March, a Duterte adviser wants Alert Level 1 to be implemented.
Joey Concepcion, the President’s Adviser on Entrepreneurship, has encouraged the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) to de-escalate to Alert Level 1 beginning next month.
This is because, according to the OCTA Research Group, the trend of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases is projected to slow down to about 1,000 to 2,000 cases.
“We must transition our countrymen from crisis to recovery mode.” This is critical if Filipinos are to help rebuild their country by engaging in economic activity such as shopping, dining out, vacationing, or returning to work,” Concepcion said in a statement on Tuesday.
He also suggests that all businesses be allowed to operate on a lower alert level.
Aside from aiding the country’s economic recovery, the Go Negosyo founder stated that raising the alert level to 1 will allow the government to test how well it can manage the situation by depending solely on minimum public health measures.
Concepcion is advocating for the gradual lifting of warning levels in places where vaccination rates are high, such as Metro Manila.
“I believe we may begin to contemplate lifting alert levels as long as there are no variants of concern, and we have already achieved a high vaccination rate and a low hospital utilization rate,” he said.
Metro Manila, Batanes, Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, Biliran, Southern Leyte, and Basilan are all on Alert Level 2 at the moment.
