The majority of Covid fatalities and serious cases in Baguio are unvaccinated.

According to the latest data released by the City Health Services Office (CHSO) and the University of the Philippines-Baguio Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (UP-DMCS), the majority of the 397 people who died from coronavirus disease (Covid-19) between Aug. 18, 2021, and January this year were unvaccinated, according to the local government.

Individuals who did not obtain vaccinations “chalked up the greatest fatality rate at 4.12 percent, with 299 out of 7,255 total unvaccinated individuals contracting Covid-19,” according to Aileen Refuerzo, the local government’s chief information officer.

She went on to say that the same thing happened to people who were infected and were labeled as having moderate or severe illnesses.

“Unjabbed persons made up the majority of the city’s moderate and severe case records,” Refuerzo stated.

According to her, 180 of the 329 moderate cases documented for the time period were unvaccinated, 16 were ineligible for vaccination, and 16 were not fully vaccinated, while the remainder were fully immunized.

In addition, 54 of the 79 severe cases were unvaccinated, and three were ineligible.

According to Refuerzo’s data, there were 82 completely vaccinated people who died out of 8,922 total cases, yielding a fatality rate of 0.92 percent.

The partially vaccinated group, on the other hand, had 7 fatalities and 646 cases, for a fatality rate of 1.08 percent.

Six deaths were recorded out of 2,718 cases for those who were not eligible for immunizations, resulting in a 0.22 percent fatality rate.

Refuerzo further stated that based on the UP-DMCS and City Epidemiological Surveillance Unit of the CHSO’s mathematical assessment of the city’s Covid-19 data, fully vaccinated individuals have 252 times fewer risks of dying than the unvaccinated.

It also revealed that unvaccinated people have 109 times the chance of dying than vaccinated people.

“The data only indicated that immunizations kept their promises of reducing severe symptoms, hospitalisation, and death,” Refuerzo said.
