LEGAZPI CITY, PHILIPPINES – The Department of Health in Bicol (DOH-5) began administering the “Resbakuna Kids” pediatric coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccination to children aged 5 to 11 years old at SM City here on Monday.

Dr. Monrey Isaiah Mancilla, the DOH-5 Covid-19 Vaccination Program Coordinator, revealed in an interview that they hope to vaccinate 979,635 kids.

He urged other parents to allow their children to have the vaccines for their own safety.

“Now is the perfect time to have your kids immunized,” Mancilla said.

The Naga City Medical Center is the other pediatric vaccination center in Bicol, aside from SM City Legazpi.

In a separate interview, SM City Legazpi spokesperson Claire Hariri noted that the location is child-friendly to reduce children’s fear of jabs.

“We put balloons and characters for the kids to make them feel better after the vaccine,” she explained.

Meanwhile, Nurse V of the DOH-5 Regional Epidemiology and Response Unit, Kenn Nuyda, stressed the significance of having children aged 5 to 11 years old vaccinated against Covid-19 in a radio interview.

“Children in this age group are not immune to catching the Covid-19 virus from other persons in the home, such as adults,” he explained.

The covid-19 infection has been detected in 1,007 boys and 877 girls aged 5 to 11 years in the Bicol Region as of February 6.
