CITY OF KORONADAL – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in South Cotabato is requesting that the public report government and private offices that refuse to accept the Philippine Identification Card (PhilID) or national ID as proof of one’s genuine identity.

Ellison Parojinog, the focal person for PSA South Cotabato’s Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), reaffirmed that the national ID must be acknowledged in all public and private transactions.

“You can report private institutions or government agencies that do not recognize the PhilSys ID to us so that we can help them integrate it into their system,” Parojinog said in a radio interview on Wednesday.

He emphasized that the President’s Office encourages government agencies to incorporate the PhilID into their systems.

Some IDs for South Cotabato residents have already been released, according to Parojinog.

“Under RA 11055 (PhilSys Identification Act), any person or entity that refuses to accept, admit, or recognize the Philippine ID card as the holder’s or possessor’s only legitimate identification without fair and sufficient cause can be fined P500,000,” Parojinog added.

If a government official or employee violates the law, the penalty includes a lifetime ban from holding any public office or employment in the government, including government-owned and controlled enterprises and their subsidiaries.

The PhilSys law aims to create a single national identification system for Filipino citizens and resident aliens in order to improve administrative governance, reduce corruption, reduce bureaucratic red tape, prevent fraudulent transactions, strengthen financial inclusion, and promote ease of doing business.
