More perks for barangay officials are sought by BBM

CITY OF ILOILO – On Thursday, UniTeam presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (BBM) praised and congratulated barangay authorities for their contributions to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic response.

Marcos told a crowd of 1,500 village leaders gathered at the Iloilo Convention Center (ICC) that if it weren’t for them, people wouldn’t feel secure leaving their homes.

They check for sick persons, report them, and sometimes transport them to approved facilities, he claimed.

“Dahil sa sipag ninyo nakikita natin na dahan-dahan na po tayong lumalabas sa pandemya (Because of your diligence, we can see that we are now progressively recovering from the pandemic),” Marcos remarked, adding that the country is now facing another challenge: the pandemic-related economic crisis.

People on the ground would not be able to obtain government help without the barangay authorities, according to the presidential candidate.

He believes it is past time for them to receive their benefits, which include a scholarship for their dependents and health insurance under the Local Government Code.

“Sa palagay ko sa napakagandang nagawa ninyong trabaho sa krisis ng pandemya, ay dapat nating balikan yan sa Local Government Code at sasabihin natin kung dapat na makuha ng buo ang benepisyo ng ating mga barangay officials, ay must So I believe we should go back to our Local Government Code and tell them that our barangay officials are entitled to the advantages that are owed to them,” he stated.

Marcos then went on to spell out his governance agenda, noting that more needed to be done with the support of numerous agencies.

He stressed the importance of improving agriculture, health care, tourism, and digital infrastructure, as well as addressing the high cost of electricity and pursuing the “Build, Build, Build” initiative.

The UniTeam then went to the Tamasak Arena in the municipality of Barotac Nuevo in Iloilo province for a grand declaration rally after meeting with barangay authorities.

He was joined by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, a vice-presidential candidate, and their senate slate.
