BUTUAN CITY, PHILIPPINES – Last year, the Diskwento Caravan (DC) of the Department of Trade and Industry – Caraga (DTI-13) made total sales of PHP5,757,913 throughout the region.

On Tuesday, DTI-13 Information Officer Mike Ariel Plaza stated the exercise was conducted by DTI-13 Regional Director Gay Tidalgo and attended by at least 40 media and civil society groups (CSOs).

Tidalgo noted in her presentation at Monday’s media briefing and CSO consultation that 18 manufacturers from the region participated in the various DC activities in 2021, serving 4,788 household beneficiaries.

Last year, the region hosted seven DC activities, the most successful of which was held at the Gaisano Capital Surigao in Surigao City from September 8 to 12 in conjunction with the “Karajawan nan Surigao” Provincial Trade Expo 2021.

“The DC is a DTI project that is being implemented around the country with the goal of providing consumers with fairly priced, high-quality products,” Tidalgo explained.

She went on to say that the initiative was run in collaboration with regional manufacturers and distributors of essentials and core commodities, as well as local government bodies.

The creation of 185 Shared Service Facilities (SSFs) in the region was also noted during the consultation.

The SSF is a DTI flagship project intended at increasing the productivity and efficiency of micro, small, and medium-sized firms (MSMEs) by providing better access to technology.

“During the media and CSO dialogue, the DTI-13 also outlined its strategic directions for 2022-2023,” Plaza said.

The agency’s directives, he said, were focused on export and investment development, industry development, MSME development, consumer protection, and consumer education and advocacy initiatives.
