MSMEs will benefit from a ‘Bagsakan’ fair to assist them to recover from the pandemic.
CITY OF ILOILO – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is counting on the five-day “Bagsakan Fair 2022: Panublion sa Western Visayas” to aid the region’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in recovering from the effects of the health pandemic.
“This was DTI’s response to the pandemic. “We’re doing this to help our clients sell their products in a place where we can simultaneously market test whether our items will hatak sa consumers (draw buyers),” DTI Regional Director Rebecca Rascon said during the inauguration ceremony at Robinsons Place on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Rascon, the DTI feels that holding a trade show is still an efficient marketing strategy and product promotion tool.
The Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion is hosting the first “Bagsakan” (a venue where items are delivered) hosted outside of Luzon (BDTP).
79 MSMEs from Aklan, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental, as well as 14 from Antique, six from Guimaras, and four from Capiz, will be showing their wares through March 6.
According to the regional director, 40 MSMEs sell food and 39 sell non-food items.
“We’re looking about us at items that are the result of many forms of help from various organizations, but most importantly, the results of our MSMEs’ commitments to consistently develop their products.” They may be made of the same material, but they are executed differently since our MSMEs’ products demonstrate ingenuity and workmanship,” Rascon noted.
In a virtual message, DTI Regional Operations Group Undersecretary Bles Lantayona said Panublion (legacy) has already turned into a “byword of quality craftsmanship and creativity.”
“Since 2020, the DTI has intensified Bagsakan operations through the BDTP to assist MSMEs and OTOPreneurs, particularly farmer-producers, in recovering from the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic. The Bagsakan has been institutionalized by the BDTP, and this marketing event has helped keep MSMEs viable since then,” she noted.
In a virtual message, BDTP director Marievic Bonoan announced that they had added a buying mission to the trade show, with three major retailers and one exporting enterprise from Manila participating.
“They’re looking for new items as well as long-term suppliers from DTI Region 6,” she explained. (
