The war in Ukraine has thrown Russian sports into disarray around the world.

Russian sports athletes and events are experiencing a backlash as the country begins to feel the effects of worldwide sanctions imposed in response to its protracted war in Ukraine.

Russian teams and clubs have been blacklisted from international tournaments since Moscow unleashed a war on its neighbor late last month.

The European football governing body, UEFA, took the first moves to show urgent support for Ukraine on and off the field.

The UEFA Champions League final was shifted from St. Petersburg, Russia to Paris one day after Russia attacked Ukraine.

All Russian clubs and national teams were barred from competing in FIFA and UEFA competitions until further notice, extending the penalties.
