The Bureau of Customs (BOC) surpassed its annual collection target by 4.7 percent, or PHP29.016 billion, in 2021.

BOC collected PHP645.765 billion versus a target of PHP616.749 billion, according to a preliminary report from the Revenue Collection Monitoring Group (RCMG).

The sum collected in 2021 was larger than the amount collected in 2019 before the epidemic, which was PHP630.31 billion.

“Our outstanding collection performance is a credit to the Bureau of Customs’ men and women’s hard work and dedication. In a text message to the Philippine News Agency, Assistant Commissioner lawyer Vincent Philip Maronilla said, “It is also a reflection of our strong commitment to giving our county the greatest public service we can offer at this trying time.”

Under the direction of a Deputy Commissioner, RCMG keeps track of collected revenues, manages the BOC’s legal requirements, offers information and analysis on collection statistics, and audits liquidated entries and bonds.

December revenue-again exceeded expectations by 20.8 percent, with PHP62.478 billion collected versus a goal of PHP51.705 billion.

Manila International Container Port, Ninoy Aquino International Airport, and the ports of San Fernando, Manila, Batangas, Legazpi, Iloilo, Surigao, Zamboanga, Davao, Subic, Clark, and Limay all exceeded their 2021 targets.

Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero credited the improved collection performance to improved valuation, increased enforcement operations against illegal importations, traders’ improved compliance with the law, gradual improvement in importation volume, and efforts to ensure unhindered movement of goods domestically and internationally during the pandemic, according to a statement.
