Starting Friday, Iloilo City will be under Level 1 Alert.

MANILA, Philippines – Starting Friday, Iloilo City will be placed under the Alert Level 1 status, which will last until March 15, according to Malacanang.

The decision was granted by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) after the city met the criteria for a lower alert level status, according to Acting Presidential Spokesperson Martin Andanar.

“On Thursday, March 10, 2022, the Inter-Agency Task Force approved the de-escalation of Iloilo City to Alert Level 1 after meeting the sub-Technical Working Group on Data Analytics’ specified criteria for de-escalation to Alert Level 1,” Andanar stated in a news statement.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treas sought to de-escalate the city’s warning level system from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 1 in a March 8 letter, noting a “dramatic decrease” in the number of Covid-19 cases.

“Covid-19 infection in Iloilo City has substantially decreased due to tight surveillance, strict implementation of health procedures, extensive RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) testing, and rapid isolation of close contacts with concurrent disinfection.” In order to justify the de-escalation of our alert level status to Level 1, this critical data must be accorded priority consideration and great weight,” Treas wrote in his letter.

Until March 15, Metro Manila and 38 other areas are under Level 1 Alert.

Karl Chua, the secretary of socioeconomic planning, said on Monday that putting the entire country on Alert Level 1 will help mitigate the economic impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

However, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III has stated that at this time, he is not in favor of placing the entire country on the lowest level of alert.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 6,297 new Covid-19 infections from March 1 to 7 in its weekly reporting format on Monday.

On Mondays, the agency will henceforth release weekly case bulletins.
