The Department of Health (DOH) assured the public on Tuesday that paracetamol, which is used to treat fever and mild to moderate discomfort, is not in limited supply.

It made the statement in response to allegations that paracetamol and other medications for flu-like symptoms were in short supply.

“We have promptly consulted major pharmacy chains, as well as local manufacturers and suppliers, on the status of mentioned products’ supply,” the statement added. “While there is an increased demand for such products in the Philippines, there is no persistent shortage.”

The department pointed out that paracetamol has a plethora of substitutes on the market, all of which are available in drugstores across the country.

The government keeps a close eye on the availability of drugs used in the symptomatic treatment of Covid-19 sufferers.

The Department of Health is collaborating with the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Trade and Industry to procure the necessary health items for the country’s coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) response.

The Department of Health, on the other hand, urged the public to avoid stockpiling, panic-buying, or making unnecessary purchases of such pharmaceuticals when they are not clinically essential.
