MANILA, Philippines — The European Union (EU) has given the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Liaison Office in Metro Manila (BLOMM) PHP3 million in support equipment, according to Support to Bangsamoro Transition (SUBATRA).

On Monday, Christoph Wagner, the EU Delegation’s Head of Cooperation in the Philippines, officiated during the ceremonial handover of communication equipment at the BLOMM headquarters in Makati City.

Computer desktops, laptops, printers, and accessories are among the items offered.

Gafur Arami Kanain, BLOMM Director, is appreciative for the EU’s help, which will be useful to the Bangsamoro government’s operations throughout the transition phase in the BARMM.

“We applaud the EU for providing us with equipment assistance,” he said in a press release, “which will help BLOMM provide vital administrative and technical support to the Chief Minister and other BARMM officials when on official business in Metro Manila.”

“The EU is glad to support BLOMM in carrying out its coordination function in Manila,” Wagner added.

Wagner had previously stated that “evidence-based planning, decision-making, and strategic communication are critical in this critical stage of the BARMM transition period.” As a result, “during the transition period, this equipment will enable the timely and smooth delivery of interventions,” he noted.

The additional aid is part of the PH1.5 billion EU-supported SUBATRA Program, which began in July 2020 and will end in June 2025 with co-funding from Spain.

The SUBATRA Programme’s implementing partners are AECID (the Spanish Development Cooperation Agency), the United Nations Office for Project Services, and the Particip – KAS Consortium.

On March 1, the EU delegation also handed over equipment worth more than PHP27 million to the Bangsamoro government.
