P2-M ‘negosyo kits’ to revitalize Cebu’s MSMEs
CEBU CITY, PHILIPPINES β A total of PHP2 million in assistance in the form of “negosyo kits” will be used to help the 2,500 micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Cebu province that were impacted by Typhoon Odette restart their operations, an official said on Wednesday.
The livelihood program, according to Rose Mae Quianola, director of the Department of Trade and Industry in Cebu, is a post-disaster response mechanism that addresses the need for continued economic activity in typhoon-affected areas.
On Wednesday, the DTI in Cebu completed the distribution of livelihood kits to MSMEs whose operations were harmed by the typhoon and who had registered to be eligible for the livelihood seeding program under “Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa” (PPG).
“We hope that this livelihood and entrepreneurship program will assist you in restarting your businesses as we recover from the pandemic and the recent natural disaster (typhoon Odette),” Quianola said.
Additionally, the DTI Negosyo Center (NC) conducted seminars on entrepreneurial development and basic bookkeeping to further equip MSMEs with skills necessary for business restoration efforts.
The DTI’s PPG program began in February in Cebu and now spans 29 cities and municipalities that were impacted by the typhoon.
Prior to the distribution of livelihood assistance, NC business counselors conducted a profile of the beneficiaries in collaboration with local government units.
Each beneficiary received PHP8,000 in cash vouchers for livelihood assistance.
The vouchers will be used by MSMEs to purchase necessary business supplies from DTI-partnered establishments.
So far, the DTI in Central Visayas has distributed 6,900 livelihood kits through the PPG program in Cebu (2,500), Bohol (2,500), Negros Orriental (1,500), and Siquijor (400).
