MANILA, Philippines – Additional seven families totaling 26 members are set to re-establish themselves in their home provinces in Region 12 (Soccsksargen) under the government’s Balik Probinsya Bagong Pag-Asa (BP2) Program.

The beneficiaries reported to the BP2 depot in Agham Road, Quezon City on Wednesday to undergo the dispatch procedure, which includes a coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) swab test to ensure they are virus-free before being returned to their home provinces.

Each family was also given a set of medications and vitamins following their swab test.

They were also briefed on the BP2 program and any assistance they may receive from the national government.

General Santos City, Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sarangani, and Sultan Kudarat are set to receive the latest batch of BP2 program beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the national government for allowing them to participate in the program following the city’s devastation by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mieflor Soria, 43, who is traveling to General Santos City with her three children, ages 16, 13, and 4, was overcome with joy at the prospect of finally returning home.

“Maraming salamat sa Balik Probinsya, tinutulungan kami sa mga anak ko sa General Santos. Excited na kami (Many thanks to the Balik Probinsya for assisting us in returning to General Santos. We are all ecstatic to return home),” she stated.

The BP2 program seeks to alleviate congestion in Metro Manila’s urban areas by encouraging people, particularly informal settlers, to return to their home provinces and assisting them in this transition through assistance and incentives in areas such as transportation, family, livelihood, housing, subsistence, and education.

It was institutionalized in May 2020 by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte through Executive Order No. 114, which established the Balik Probinsya Council comprised of representatives from various government agencies.
