MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Friday that no serious issues have been raised so far during the 45-day campaign period for municipal candidates.

“In comparison to prior elections, the candidates’ transgressions appear to be manageable and within our expectations thus far.” When asked for an assessment, Commissioner George Erwin Garcia replied in a message to the media, “Our constant plea to them and their supporters in compliance with health regulations and compliance with our campaign guidelines.”

He also reminded candidates and their supporters to follow the Commission’s campaign guidelines.

“Yes,” Garcia answered when asked if they are prepared to file motu proprio charges against campaign offenders. Everyone should never underestimate the gravity of our resolve.”

In the upcoming municipal elections, a total of 18,023 local seats are up for grabs.

There are 253 seats for House of Representatives members, 81 seats for provincial governor and vice governor, 782 seats for Sangguniang Panlalawigan members, 1,634 seats for city/municipal mayor and vice mayor, and 13,558 seats for city/municipal councilors.

The poll board also claimed Cebu is at the top of the list of 10 provinces with the greatest number of registered voters, with 3,288,778.

Cavite comes in second with 2,302,353 people, followed by Pangasinan with 2,096,936, Laguna with 2,045,687 people, Bulacan with 2,007,523 people, Negros Occidental with 1,946,639 people, Batangas with 1,819,071 people, Iloilo with 1,628,752 people, Rizal with 1,601,962 people, and Pampanga with 1,589,473 people.
