DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The local administration asked parents to have their children vaccinated since over 400 public schools in Davao City have already begun face-to-face (F2F) sessions.

While 11 schools have yet to receive approval for the F2F lessons, at least 419 schools are offering on-site classes, according to Jenielito Atillo, a spokeswoman for the Department of Education in Davao Region (DepEd-11).

The city’s Covid-19 Task Force is concerned about the return of regular classes, citing the city’s poor immunization attendance for children aged 5 to 11.

The task force’s spokesperson, Dr. Michelle Schlosser, stated that only 3,311 children aged 5 to 11 years old have got their second doses of Covid-19 vaccination.

Only 1.2 percent of the 11,000 children who had their initial vaccinations fell into this category.

She also stated that the 11,000 youngsters who received their first doses represent barely 4% of the city’s target population of 269,000 children aged 5 to 11.

“We can’t guarantee that they’d wear face masks in the classroom.” “Please don’t wait for the face-to-face sessions to begin before taking steps to protect your children,” Schlosser advised.

She advised parents to take advantage of the opportunity to get their children immunized while the vaccination centers are still relatively empty.

SM Lanang Premier, SM City Davao, Gaisano Mall Bajada – The Peak, Gaisano Mall Toril, and Holy Cross of Calinan is the authorized immunization centers for children aged 5 to 11.
