ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Officials from the Department of Education (DepEd) said Tuesday that restricted progressive face-to-face (F2F) classrooms are now being implemented in all of the city’s public schools.

The limited in-person classes in 213 public schools here have the approval of the local school board and the local Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease, according to Dr. Roy Tuballa, city schools division superintendent (IATF-EID).

“Everything is in order,” Tuballa added, noting that they are adhering to the joint DepEd-Department of Health recommendations, particularly in the implementation of the School Safety Assessment Tool (SSAT).

According to Tuballa, three private schools were also suggested to hold limited progressive F2F classes.

Dr. Jay Montealto, assistant superintendent of the city schools division, also revealed that 58,171 students from elementary, junior, and senior high schools are enrolled in the limited F2F classes available in public institutions.

According to Montealto, the figure represents 23% of the city’s enrolled kids in public schools.

He also mentioned that 1,394 students attend F2F classes in private schools.

Tuballa noted that difficult students are given precedence to attend in-person classes with the approval of their parents.

“They require instructive and exclusive tuition,” Tuballa said, adding that anyone is welcome to attend the F2F lessons as long as their parents give their permission.

He pointed out that 95.8% of public school instructors in this city are fully vaccinated, which is greater than the needed mass protection for teachers.

According to Tuballa, they are also making the required preparations for the start of the school year 2022-2023, as mandated by the SSAT.
