Wage hike petitions have been submitted with ten wage boards: DOLE

MANILA, Philippines β€” The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said on Wednesday that 20 wage rise petitions have been filed in ten locations around the country.

The National Capital Region (NCR) and Regions 3 (Central Luzon), 4-A (Calabarzon), 5 (Bicol Region), 6 (Western Visayas), 7 (Central Visayas), 8 (Eastern Visayas), 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), 10 (Northern Mindanao), and 11 (Northern Mindanao) are among the regions, according to Rolly Francia, DOLE Information and Publication Service (IPS) director (Davao Region).

Apart from applications filed with the National Capital Region-Regional Wages and Productivity Board (NCR- RTWPB), Francia stated, groups, have also requested nine other RTWPBs for raises in employee compensation.

The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) filed a new appeal for a PHP470 wage raise on Tuesday, according to the NCR-RTWPB, after its earlier petition for the same amount was denied by the board.

The three wage petitions that were previously submitted have been merged, aside from the labor group’s petition.

The daily minimum wage for Metro Manila workers is being raised from PHP213 to PHP250.

The Unity for Wage Increase Now (UWIN) filed a petition on Nov. 25, 2019, proposing a PHP213 wage increase, the Metro East Labor Federation (MELF) filed a petition on March 4, 2022, proposing the same amount of pay hike, and the Solidarity of Unions in the Philippines for Empowerment and Reforms (SUPER) filed a petition on March 4, 2022, proposing a PHP213 to PHP250 wage increase.

The meeting with the labor sector is scheduled for April 8, and the meeting with the employers’ group is scheduled for April 19.

Following meetings with both parties, the Department of Labor will release a notice of public hearing inviting labor, employers, and other organizations to attend.

Silvestre Bello III, the Secretary of Labor and Employment, had previously ordered the activation of all wage boards in the country to assess whether wage increases are necessary in light of rising oil and other prime commodity prices, which have been exacerbated by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
