MANILA, Philippines — During his speech before the Filipino-American community in Washington, D.C., a senator recalled Francis Harrison, an American statesman and governor-general who served as an adviser to President Manuel Quezon and was conferred Philippine citizenship.

Senator Francis Tolentino stated that bravery is a valuable gem of humanity that transcends race.

In a speech shared on Facebook on Friday, he stated, “Francis Burton Harrison requested to be buried in a land where he is a foreigner.” “Valor is a daily occurrence. Valor should be ingrained in our daily lives.”

In his last will and will, Harrison stated that if he died in the United States, he wanted to be buried in the Philippines, which he referred to as his “motherland.”

Harrison died in 1957 in New Jersey and was buried in Manila.

“When I was still the MMDA chairman, lagi kong pinapalinis ang kanyang puntod sa Manila North Cemetery bago mag-All Souls’ Day sapagkat ako’y humanga sa kanyang habilin bago siya namatay,” he said.

“Ang mga taga-Metro Manila ay naalala siya sa kalsadang FB Harrison Street sa Pasay City, Paraaque at Manila, at sa dating Harrison Plaza sa Maynila,” he said.

On Wednesday, Tolentino administered the oath to new officers of the United Federation of Filipino-American Educators in Maryland at the Philippine Embassy’s Quezon Hall in Washington, D.C.

He also shared images from his meeting with Senator Thomas Tuberville of Alabama, as well as Congressmen Gary Palmer of Alabama and Mike Carey of Ohio, all of whom indicated an interest in bolstering Philippine-American defense and economic ties.
