TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – If he wins the Senate campaign, former Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar has pledged to fight for the continuance of the “Build, Build, Build” (BBB) program.

Because the deployment of infrastructure projects will help produce jobs, the UniTeam Senatorial bet stated he will advocate for legislation to support the initiative in the future administration.

“We applaud President Duterte’s BBB initiative. The initiative has created six million employment in the last five years. Over 29,000 kilometers of road, 5,000 bridges, and 150,000 school buildings were constructed by the government. Despite the pandemic, we’ve been able to accomplish a lot,” Villar told reporters on Saturday.

Following the building of many bypass routes and the Leyte Tide Embankment project, Villar said the success of Build, Build, Build is clearly seen in Eastern Visayas.

Villar agreed that the success of “Build, Build, Build” had helped him in his campaign.

Villar, who usually ranks in the top 12 in senatorial polls, stated, “The success of BBB and the legacy of my parents help me in my campaign.”

The BBB Program is the centerpiece of the Duterte administration’s efforts to usher in the Philippines’ “golden age of infrastructure.”

The goal of the program was to increase public infrastructure spending from an average of 2.9 percent of GDP under the previous government to around 7.3 percent.
