PH has a ‘good’ pandemic management system, according to OCTA.

MANILA, Philippines โ€” According to OCTA Research Fellow Dr. Guido David, the government’s huge immunization effort has greatly contributed to the decrease in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the Philippines.

One of the noteworthy characteristics in the previous two years of fighting the pandemic, according to David, is the occurrence of surge waves three to four months apart.

“Medyo sinu-support nga nito yung idea na humina yung immunity natin after a period of time โ€” usually three to four months pero sa ngayon maganda naman ang kalagayan natin,” David said at the public virtual briefing.

It’s also possible that the Covid-19 spike in the country won’t happen, he said.

“Kasi umpisa nang magkaroon tayo ng mass vaccination talagang na-control natin, especially yung hospitalization,” says the author. In fact, for the last two years, isa tayo sa may pinakamagandang kalagayan sa Southeast Asia (Since we began mass vaccination, we’ve been able to keep it under control, particularly in terms of hospitalization.) In fact, over the last two years, we’ve become one of Southeast Asia’s best-positioned countries),” David explained.

“That’s something we’re proud of.” Ibig sabihin kahit papano โ€” tayo may mga lapses sa umpisa, but ngayon maganda na yung pandemic management. In the coming years, sana magtuluy-tuloy ito (That is, even if we had some breaches at beginning, we now have an excellent pandemic management). I’m hoping that will continue in the [future] years),” he continued.

The country remains in a very low-risk category, according to David, with a nationwide positive rate of.06 percent.

The average daily attack rate (ADAR) in the country remains below 1%, while the reproduction rate has increased significantly, although Covid-19 incidences remain low.

David stated that all parts of health crisis management and policies should be data-driven.

“If our policies are founded on science and facts, we usually get a decent calibration of our response,” he said.

David is also optimistic that the incoming administration will maintain the government’s data-driven strategy to dealing to the Covid-19 pandemic and other global health crisis concerns.

Meanwhile, David claimed the World Health Organization’s warning of a probable outbreak might come true if the public refuses to get vaccinated with Covid-19 initial doses and booster shots, as recommended by health officials.
