MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Roa Duterte stated on Monday that if Senator Richard Gordon challenges him in a public discussion, he is willing to participate.

Gordon was once again labeled a “thief” in a prerecorded Talk to the People by Duterte for his suspected involvement in corruption at the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), which the senator chairs.

“If you want to debate me in public, fine,” he added, emphasizing that he was familiar with Gordon’s case number.

A case number is a unique identifier assigned to a criminal case by the clerk of court.

Mr. Gordon, I have your case number,” he added.

Meanwhile, Duterte criticized Gordon for allegedly spattering while speaking.

“Kaya if magpunta kayo sa mga rally nandiyan si Gordon, magdala kayo ng payong,” he remarked.

Duterte has chastised Gordon for conducting investigations into possible anomalies in the government’s acquisition of Covid-19 supply during the pandemic’s peak in 2020.

Duterte backed senatorial hopeful and former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque to “replace” Gordon in the Senate in an edition of The President’s Chatroom that aired on Sunday.

He claimed that Gordon and other senators spent hours questioning his Cabinet members, squandering time that should have been spent working.

Duterte has long maintained that the government’s purchase of medical supplies from Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corp. complies with Republic Act 11469, also known as the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act (Bayanihan 1).

He went on to say that Congress was aware of the clause in Bayanihan 1 that allows the government to purchase emergency supplies without having to follow procurement rules.
