MANILA, Philippines — Despite the ongoing tensions in Jerusalem, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) continues to monitor the situation of Filipinos in Israel.

“The Department is keeping an eye on the situation in the affected areas. The Department is working closely with the Philippine embassies in Tel Aviv and Amman to keep up to speed on the security situation in these locations, as well as the protection of Filipinos in Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank “It was announced on Tuesday.

The Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv issued advice on April 14 advising Filipinos in the nation to avoid visiting Bethlehem, Jericho, and Hebron in the West Bank, as well as the Temple Mount, Damascus Gate, Herod’s Gate, Al Wad Road, Musrara Road, and the adjacent neighborhoods in East Jerusalem.

From April 14 to May 1, the alert is in force.

According to the United Nations, around 180 Palestinians were hurt by Israeli police last week, including at least 27 children, during tensions around the Al Aqsa Mosque compound, which is sacred to both Muslims and Jews.

The report comes after a series of clashes between Israeli and Palestinian forces since early this month, which occurred during a rare convergence of important Muslim, Jewish, and Christian holy days. (
