Memorial Circle will be rehabilitated, and more green spaces will be restored by QC.

MANILA, Philippines β€” The government of Quezon City intends to redevelop the Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC), restore more green spaces, and renovate parks and playgrounds.

Mayor Joy Belmonte stated in a statement on Wednesday that the master plan to renovate QMC took into account the development of the MRT-7 station within the park.

“Quezon Memorial Circle is one of QC’s assets, and it is one of the city’s important nodes of the ‘Green Lung Network,’ where families may enjoy green open areas for outdoor activities.” “We are not merely focusing on aesthetics per se with this redevelopment plan, but rather on a purposeful design that our QCitizens would utilize and appreciate,” Belmonte added.

The redevelopment plan will begin in the fourth quarter of this year and will be completed in stages.

According to Belmonte, over 70% of QMC will be committed to becoming significant green areas, which will feature picnic parks and children’s playgrounds where families typically stay in themed gardens, and urban farming areas.

The local administration intends to construct a multipurpose field that will be suitable for a variety of sports such as football, softball, baseball, and frisbee, among others.

A skate track and park, as well as basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts tiered lawns, and a cultural amphitheater will be constructed to serve as venues for artists, entertainers, and musicians.

The plan includes wider route walks, bike lanes, jogging paths, and workout places.

There will be botanical gardens with modular kiosks authorized for plant vendors inside the park since the local administration promotes urban farming and gardening.

Meanwhile, the Liwasang Aurora, or open-air venue in the shape of a circle near the pylon, will be restored.

Food vendors, wet and dry goods vendors, and souvenir vendors will all have their own locations thanks to the master redevelopment plan’s inclusion of pop-up storefronts.

Additional park security will be given by the installation of CCTV cameras, as well as public internet hubs.

Belmonte pushed for the redesign of the MRT-7 station within the QMC before the coronavirus illness 201 (Covid-19) pandemic to ensure that it would not destroy heritage sites while maintaining the park’s integrity.

“This is an area that we are developing for the next generation.” “QCitizens will continue to enjoy spending time enjoying sports and other recreational activities at QMC,” she stated.

The Quezon Memorial Shrine, which is located within the park, was designated as a national cultural heritage site by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) in 2020.

The Quezon Memorial Center is a 27-hectare national park in the heart of the city that is devoted to the memory of former President Manuel Luis Quezon.

The National Historical Commission and the local government of Quebec jointly maintain it.
