Students at SHS applaud the Department of Education’s effort for face-to-face immersion.

MANILA, Philippines β€” On Wednesday, several senior high school students applauded the Department of Education’s (DepEd) push to reintroduce in-person job immersion.

Isabella Lladoc, a student in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) stream, said she agrees with the DepEd’s decision because learning may be obtained through immersion on the ground.

Lladoc, who aspires to be a nurse, expressed his dissatisfaction with the current remote learning system.

“I was a little upset because my buddies and I were really looking forward to being able to participate in the work immersion.” However, I am aware of the situation we are in as a result of the virus. “It would be dangerous for schools to let their pupils be immersed in the pandemic at this time,” she said.

Janine Dela Providencia, a 17-year-old aspiring veterinarian, said she would prefer to complete her training in a pet clinic rather than an online school.

“Hindi ganun kadaling maintindihan ang lesson,” says the narrator. Makatulong ko sa tingin ko (ang face-to-face immersion) dahil mas mabibigyan ng pansin ang pag-aaral (Understanding the lessons isn’t easy. I believe this will enable us to devote more time to learning.)” she added.

Meanwhile, Angela Case, a senior high school (SHS) student studying accountancy, business, and management, believes that in-person learning should be provided to SHS students to enable them to determine what vocations to pursue based on real-world experience while complying with public health regulations.

“It’s the proper decision for me if I exercise safety procedures on a regular and consistent basis.” Kasi (because) we’ll be in grade 12 next year. It would be a waste to graduate from senior high school with unfinished coursework. I also asked my classmates and friends about this, and they all agreed. “However, it’s reasonable that some people may be wary about yet another major shift,” she said.

The Department of Education (DepEd) stated in a statement that they prefer the restoration of SHS students’ in-person immersion so that they can gain real-world experience in their chosen fields.

“We strongly recommend that Work Immersion be introduced for Senior High School students since they are the ones who are closest to achieving their postsecondary objectives and dreams,” Education Secretary Leono Briones stated.

This will apply to schools that are qualified for advanced face-to-face sessions, as well as industries that meet minimal health criteria, according to DepEd Assistant Secretary Malcolm Garma.

“Ang Grades 11 and 12 ay kailangang bumalik sa kanilang klase, so ‘yong immersion natin ay kasama sa babalik sa ating face-to-face classes,” says Naniniwala. If [those in] Grades 11 and 12 already need to return to classrooms, immersion will be offered alongside face-to-face classes. If they work in any industry, they will be subjected to the Inter-Agency Task Force’s rules),” Garma explained.
