DOLE is expected to make a decision on regional wage rise requests soon.
MANILA, Philippines โ The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPBs), according to a Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) official, are likely to make a decision on wage raise requests in the coming weeks.
“We’ve heard there are a lot of public hearings planned already.” So they’ll be able to make their decisions in the coming few weeks or months,” said DOLE Undersecretary Benjo Benavidez at the Laging Handa briefing.
“So, let’s hope that our boards will make their choices in the next weeks, before the conclusion of the current administration,” he concluded.
Regional wage boards are now consulting with stakeholders, including companies and workers, according to a DOLE representative.
“As a result, I don’t wish to personally influence the boards’ decisions.” “However, they are evaluating the scenario in their regions to see what the workers’ demands are, as well as the employers’ capacities,” he said.
“All of the regional boards have begun the process of determining the minimum wage rate,” Benavidez said.
The Philippines’ Trade Union Congress (TUCP) has submitted ten petitions for wage increases for workers in the country.
National Capital Region (NCR), Central Luzon, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, 10 (Northern Mindanao), Davao, 12 (Socksargen), and Caraga are the regions.
The same petitions will be filed in Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Region 2.
Meanwhile, he stated that on Labor Day, there are over 80,000 jobs available for Filipino job searchers both locally and internationally.
“We have 26 venues for job and business fairs,” a DOLE official stated, “but the major event of the job and business fair will be held in San Fernando, Pampanga.”
61,000 of the 82,000 job openings are for local jobs, while 21,000 are for opportunities abroad.
Manufacturing, business process outsourcing, retail and sales, production operators, service representatives, collection specialists, and retail and sales agents are among the in-demand positions in the country, according to him.
Nurses, nursing aides, waiters, food servers, auditors, and construction employees such as carpenters, foremen, and welders are all in demand in other countries.
“The Middle East, Europe, Germany, and Poland are among the destinations,” Benavidez said.
