Lacson is undecided about attending the May 1 panel discussion.
ORMOC CITY (LEYTE), PHILIPPINES – Sen. Panfilo Lacson, a presidential candidate, said he is still undecided if he will attend the Commission on Elections (Comelec) panel interview, citing a possible scheduling difficulty.
Lacson stated during a sortie here Wednesday night that his camp is currently looking into their schedule before determining whether or not to participate in the poll body’s one-hour panel interview on May 1.
“We’ll see what we can do.” Lacson remarked in a brief interview following a town hall gathering here, “I was ready for the debate scheduled for April 23 and 24, but they changed the timetable.”
The poll organization canceled the debate format due to scheduling conflicts among candidates, as well as unpaid dues to Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, the site for the first of two sections.
The Comelec, in collaboration with the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas, has chosen to switch to taped interviews, which will air from May 2 to 6.
Lacson and his running companion, Senate President Vicente Sotto, are on their second trip to Leyte, which he termed as poignant.
When they were drafting the restoration plan following Super Typhoon Yolanda, Lacson recalled visiting the province on a regular basis.
Former First Lady Imelda Marcos’ native region of Leyte is considered the bailiwick of presidential hopeful Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Lacson said he is banking on the people on the ground to campaign for him with less than two weeks until election day, especially because they have created groups in 59 provinces around the country.
“I’m grateful for my support group’s dedication. “They’re retired soldiers who are accustomed to crawling and persuading voters,” Lacson explained.
The Lacson-Sotto team advocates for Budget Reform Advocacy for Village Empowerment, a program that aims to help community leaders prepare local development plans.
