Partners in peace efforts are recognized by OPAPRU.
MANILA – Thanks to the invaluable support and contributions of its partners from government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and peace warriors, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) has achieved significant milestones in its pursuit of the comprehensive Philippine peace process.
Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., OPAPRU’s chief, remarked that their partners’ continuous support was vital in the effective promotion and implementation of peace programs.
“Through the partnerships we’ve built and nurtured over the years, we’ve implemented programs and projects that are improving the lives of our beneficiaries, particularly former combatants, their families, and communities,” Galvez said during his speech at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City during the Peace Partners’ Recognition Day.
With unwavering dedication and steadfast support from its partners, OPAPRU’s joint aim of attaining permanent and sustainable peace development has been possible, he said.
He went on to say that these alliances brought stability and development to the country, particularly in the south.
“Thank you, once again, to all of our peace partners and stakeholders for supporting and assisting our agency, especially during these trying times. “We will be eternally thankful,” Galvez remarked.
The following are the recipients of individual awards: Amina Rasul; former Ambassador Rafael Seguis; Defense Undersecretary Ceasar Yano; Ateneo de Manila University professor Jennifer Santiago-Oreta; Bangsamoro Transition Authority member of parliament lawyer Jose Lorena; Acting Environment Secretary Jim Sampulna; Lanao del Sur Board Member Jamil Faisal Adiong; Ateneo de Davao University President, Fr. Joel Tabora; OPAPRU consultant Maria Victoria Magl; OP (posthumous award).
OPAPRU also thanked the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Nonviolent Peace Force, the Armed Forces of the Philippines Peace and Development Office, the Philippine National Police-Peace Process and Development Center, and Sulu State College for their contributions to the implementation of its peace programs.
President Rodrigo Duterte, according to Galvez, has directed that the national government honor all pledges made under all signed accords.
“We are proud to say that the President has kept his promise and is leaving a legacy that his administration can be proud of — a legacy of peace that is now felt by every Filipino, particularly in the Bangsamoro, which has experienced double-digit poverty reduction and the country’s second fastest growth recovery,” he said.
Galvez thinks that the new President will continue Duterte’s efforts to promote peace initiatives.
