MANILA – By the conclusion of President Rodrigo Duterte’s tenure on June 30, the administration hopes to have vaccinated 8.3 million more people, bringing the total to 77 million.

Myrna Cabotaje, head of the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) and Health Undersecretary, announced on Tuesday that 68.7 million Filipinos had received two primary doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to date.

Another 4.5 million people are scheduled to receive second doses.

“By June 30th, we will have fully immunized 77 million people.” “Ito ng ating Secretary of Health sa regional directors noong nagpulong-pulong kami (Ito ng ating Secretary of Health sa regional directors noong nagpulong-pulong kami),” she said, noting the need to ensure that individuals who had their first jabs finish their primary series.

Cabotaje further stated that the government still needs to vaccinate approximately five million children aged 5 to 11 and approximately one million children aged 12 to 17.

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases has urged public and private educational institutions to increase vaccination rates in basic education.

“As I have stated, we can still vaccinate more school children aged 5 to 11,” she added.

She stated that the government has enough reformulated doses for children aged 5 to 11 and standard dosages for the remaining unvaccinated adult population.

“Every week, we’ll monitor to make sure we hit the target, if not come closer to 77 million,” Cabotaje said.

Over 13.6 million people have received their first booster doses out of the total number of those who have been fully vaccinated.

For the time being, the second booster is only for immunocompromised adults.
