MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Monday that once Cavite 7th District Rep. Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla takes over as Secretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ) in the next administration, special elections for his seat can be held.

According to Comelec Commissioner George Garcia, the House of Representatives must determine whether to designate a caretaker solon or announce a vacancy and schedule a special election.

“We’ll wait for Congress to act. If Congress declares that a special election will be held, we will hold the election “In a press conference, he stated. “However, Congress normally chooses a caretaker to address the district’s affairs.”

Remulla, who was re-elected in the May 9 elections, is said to have accepted the invitation to lead the DOJ from presumptive president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

“Those are what we call incompatible offices. You can’t accept one while also accepting the other. You must choose between giving up one and accepting the other “Garcia explained.
