MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Rail Transit-3 (MRT-3) free trip for commuters has been extended till June 30 by the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

DOTr Secretary Art Tugade said in a public statement on Wednesday that the extension will let more Filipinos use the much-improved and newly rehabilitated MRT-3 for free.

President Rodrigo Duterte introduced the free MRT-3 trip on March 28 to commemorate the MRT’s considerable improvement in service following rigorous renovation and the procurement of more trains.

The free ride, which was supposed to terminate on May 30th, has been extended till the end of the Duterte administration.

According to figures released by the Department of Transportation on May 24, nearly 15 million commuters had benefited from the free MRT-3 journey.
