Marcos is being asked by PRRD to continue his anti-drug campaign in his “personal style.”

MANILA, Philippines — President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said President Rodrigo Duterte requested him to keep the government’s anti-illegal drug campaign going on Thursday.

Prior to the May 9 elections, Marcos stated that Duterte encouraged him to prioritize solving the country’s drug problem in his “own way” during discussions with him.

“One thing he was adamant about was ‘Ituloy mo’yong anti-drug syndicate na sinimulan ko,” says the author (Just continue the anti-drug syndicate [program] that I started). ‘Do it your way,’ he suggested in a Facebook live interview with a restricted group of journalists.

Duterte wants his successor to continue his campaign against illegal drugs in order to protect the youth, according to the next president.

“Do it your way, palitan mo,” says the narrator, “but huwag mo iiwanan because kawawa ang kabataan natin.” Masisira ang buhay nila’ (You can change it, but don’t abandon it since it will make our youth unhappy.) Their lives will be destroyed),” Duterte said, according to Marcos.

Marcos said he totally understands Duterte’s remarks because the drug problem still exists and the government must address it appropriately.

Acting presidential spokesperson and Communications Secretary Martin Andanar had earlier lauded the administration’s anti-narcotics campaign, which saw over PHP75 billion worth of drugs seized, over a million drug personalities surrendered, and the establishment of more accredited Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehab Centers across the country.

“When it comes to the number of drug user surrenderees who are undergoing rehabilitation, the amount of hard drugs na nahuli ng ating (When it comes to the number of drug user surrenderees who are undergoing rehabilitation, the amount of hard drugs seized by our) Philippine National Police, ng ating (by our) Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency,” he added.

Even the international community has denounced Duterte’s war on illegal drugs, but he remains insistent that it is a social threat that must be addressed.

Duterte told drug smugglers on Tuesday that he will always see them as his enemies, even after his six-year term ends on June 30.

“Galit ako,” she says.

If I ginawa ‘yan in my bayan, rang tinatapos mo ang buhay namin. So it’s a must for me to malaman ng mga durugista (I’m extremely mad.) If you destroy my country, you are effectively putting an end to our lives. As a result, I want drug lords to know that I will always be your adversary. In a prerecorded Talk to the People, he added, “Iyan ang tandaan ninyo (Remember that).”

Even as a civilian, he reiterated his commitment to continue his anti-narcotics fight.

“Even if I am already a civilian, we can continue this battle.” Itong shabu na ‘to ay mahirap, sabi ko sisirain ang bayan nito (This shabu is a difficult case, it will destroy this nation). They will destabilize the Philippine society,” he continued.

Duterte stated that he would prefer drug lords and peddlers to be “dead than alive.”

Human rights critics were likewise branded as “posturing” by him.

“Itong (These) human rights, all they have to do — all they can do is posture, hanggang diyan lang ‘yan sila,” she says (that is all they can do). “They are incapable of assisting the country,” he stated.

Duterte believes that law enforcement officers should be empowered to kill drug dealers without mercy, especially if their lives are in risk.
