2 SUCs evaluate Ormoc Diversion Road

TACLOBAN- The Regional Development Council (RDC) invited Samar State University and Biliran Province State University to evaluate the Ormoc Diversion Road in northwest Leyte.

RDC vice-chairperson and NEDA regional director Bonifacio Uy said the study will be part of the two SUCs’ research and extension programs by evaluating the projects’ development objectives and documenting lessons, innovations, and effective approaches and strategies during project implementation.

The review will encompass the diversion route as well as nearby San Juan-Lao-Naungan and Merida-Lundag-Isabel in northwestern Leyte.

Both SSU and BiPSU are located outside Leyte, ensuring the study’s neutrality and independence. The two universities will also study economic and sociological repercussions, Uy said.

RDC private sector representative Roy Bernard Fiel advised the evaluation based on last year’s RPMC field monitoring trips in Ormoc City.

RPMC noted a tight curve on one bridge abutment and poor roadside drainage due to deteriorated canal sections.

On May 12, the RDC Executive Committee authorized the study.

The PHP3 billion Ormoc Diversion Road, which began in 2011, will be finished in 2023.

The 4.5-kilometer diversion road project will minimize traffic along Merida-Isabel-Palompon Road in Ormoc City.

Ormoc City Diversion Road is part of DPWH 8’s “Build, Build, Build” initiative.
