Bulacan’s tannery and jewelry sectors are being revived by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The provincial office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is working to resurrect the tannery and jewelry sectors in this city, which have been severely impacted by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) epidemic.

Tannery and jewelry, according to Mary Grace Sta. Ana Reyes, and DTI-Bulacan information officer, are among the sunset sectors that need to be resurrected to create more opportunities and provide citizens a better living.

“Over time, there were fundamental reasons why certain sectors stayed the same or even worsened in their functioning. In an interview, Reyes noted that this included the impacts of the Covid -19 epidemic.

She emphasized the urgent need for innovative business models and concepts, as well as the importance of industry organizations’ visibility in the creation process, which she believes is critical for the business community to prosper in these fast-changing times.

“DTI-Bulacan recognizes the need of having a well-organized body and association to help them grow and prosper.” As a result, plans are in the works to hold consultation meetings between existing and micro, small, and medium-sized firms (MSMEs) working in priority areas “she stated

She stated that the DTI-Bulacan is currently collaborating with local MSMEs in the development of industry plans and roadmaps.

Apart from the tannery and jewelry industries, Reyes stated that DTI-Bulacan is looking to create new industry sectors that can integrate innovations and sustainability principles to help MSMEs adapt to changing times.

“The epidemic of Covid-19 has altered the local economic landscape, making it critical to promote innovation and sustainability as methods for industry development and expansion,” she noted.
