A health official says booster shots are not required.
A health official said on Thursday that neither the government nor the Department of Health had issued a statement stating that administering Covid-19 vaccine booster doses is required.
“We would like to clarify, the government, the department, did not give any statement that vaccination is mandatory,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in an online media forum. “Gusto po nating klaruhin ano, wala pong binigay na statement ang ating gobiyerno, ang kagawaran na ang atin pong pagbabakuna ay mandatory.”
In response to rumors that the “past administration’s strategy would merely make it mandatory for work,” Vergeire expressed his opinion.
“We also didn’t make any claims that boosters would be required. She stated, “That is not included in our direction, and it is not in our announcements. Wala po iyan sa ating direksiyon, wala po iyan sa ating mga pronouncements.
She said, “What we’re saying is that we need to increase the booster doses uptick in our nation because we observe and even our experts are saying that our immunity for our population is already dwindling. Kailangan naman po talaga maitaas ang antas ng booster doses uptick dito po sa ating bansa.”
More than 70.8 million Filipinos, including 9.3 million teenagers and 3.6 million kids, had received all of their recommended vaccinations as of July 5.
Additionally, more than 15.2 million people have received their first booster doses, and more than 895,000 healthcare professionals, elderly people, immunocompromised people, and people with comorbidities have received their second booster doses.
In order to increase the coverage of booster dosages and implement the plans, directives, and recommendations that the President provided yesterday, Vergeire added that the government is now collaborating with the other departments and agencies.
The DOH plans to deliver booster doses to 50% of the eligible population and vaccinate 90% of the A2 population or senior citizens.
