Fidel V. Ramos, PBBM’s distant uncle, passed away.

Former President Fidel V. Ramos passed away on Sunday, and President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is mourning his loss.

Marcos sent the Ramos family his sincere sympathies on his official Facebook page.

Having led a complete life as a military officer and public servant, former president Fidel Valdez Ramos passed away today. “I express my sincere condolences to the family of former President Fidel Valdez Ramos,” said Marcos.

Ramos was related to Ferdinand Marcos Sr., the late former president, through his second cousin.

Fabian Marcos, the paternal grandfather of Marcos Sr., and Crispina Marcos-Valdez, the maternal grandmother of Ramos, were related.

“On this tragic day, our family feels the sorrow of the Filipino people. We lost a family member as well as a capable leader, he continued.

All Filipinos were urged by the President to pray for Ramos’s ultimate peace.

“Our thankful nation will always appreciate and be permanently entrenched in the hearts of his presidency,” he said.

Following the Ramos family’s confirmation of the former president’s passing, Marcos made his remark.

“The death of former President Fidel Valdez Ramos has been deeply saddened by the Ramos family. The Ramos family issued a statement thanking everyone for respecting their privacy while they grieved together.

Arrangements for the wake and funeral will be revealed “shortly.”

Duterte conveys his sympathies.

Rodrigo Duterte, a former president, too expressed “great grief” over Ramos’ passing.

Duterte issued a statement in which he said, “I am one with his wife, Ming, his family, his friends, and the entire Filipino people in grieving the death of a great politician, mentor, and friend. “Let us remember his record of service and his great accomplishments to the nation as we mourn his passing. May God grant him eternal rest and grant courage and comfort to all of his grieving family members.

During the first year of the Duterte administration in 2016, Ramos briefly held the position of special envoy to China.

Before taking office as the nation’s 12th president from 1992 to 1998, Ramos served as the head of the Philippine Constabulary, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and Secretary of National Defense.

On March 18, 1928, in Lingayen, Pangasinan, he was given the nickname “FVR.”
